To all members of the Historia (HTA) community, we are pleased to announce that we are back.

 liSince our last update we have seen historical moments that needed to be recorded for the prosperity of history, from the Hong Kong protests, to the passage of impeachment articles by the US House of Representants against US President Donald J. Trump and the subsequential acquittal of said impeachment articles, to the latest Wuhan Virus (SARS-CoV-2) and COVID-19 disease, and many moments between; this project was much to important for us to stop. These are the moments that Historia Network was made to record accurately for future generations to learn what really happened via an accurate consensus based historical record.

Since our last blog post many months ago, we stealthily worked on the Historia project until we got it to the point in which we could fix our previous issues and release a new version. Over the course of the past two weeks, some of you might or might not have noticed new releases to get our network upgraded and running properly again.  As of this blog article release date you can now download the newest version of Historia from our GitHub release page.

There are many many changes that we had to make to the architecture of the Historia Network to make it work how we originally designed. In this blog article we will discuss some of the technical changes. Please be patient with us as well are still getting everything up and running again. Also, we ask the community to point out things that still need to be updated to get our community and our project back on track.

Technical 

To get the network fixed the Historia developers had to basically start over. The blockchain data itself is intact and as we mentioned in our last blog article, we told you to make sure your wallets are saved securely. We hoped you listened. All funds on the blockchain still exist. Nothing has been lost.

New Base Version – To get the Historia Network running again we started over on the development process. The latest version of Historia is built on Dash v0.14.0.0. This version offered some additional functions that we are excited to have as part of Historia Core. Some but not all of these changes are listed below:

• Chainlocks (DIP-0008) – To prevent 51% attacks, for a blockchain like ours with low hash rate this was definitely a great additional function. For more information from the Dash team concerning Chainlocks, you can read this blog post
• Deterministic Masternodes (DIP-0003) – The masternode information is now stored on chain, rather than on a secondary protocol that was passed around the network. The benefits to this are many including simplified code and more efficient bandwidth usage. For more information from the Dash team concerning Deterministic Masternodes, you can read this blog post.

Historia Technical Customizations

Previously the Historia developers attempted to have a split masternode system that unfortunately at the time did not work out well and caused issues. We have over-hauled the entire system and simplified the system.

Content Distribution Masternodes (CDMN) – Masternodes now only come in one variety which is the content distribution masternode.

The specifics of the CDMN are as follows:

• 5000 HTA.
• A wallet to store your Historia
• A Linux server, preferably a Virtual Private Server (VPS).
• IPv4 address
• IPFS Running
• Your own DNS name
• Reward: 32% per block – increase 2.5% every 2 months until 50% per block

Voting Nodes (Previously known as Voting Masternodes) – Previously to be able to participant in the voting of records this required a voting masternode setup. This was a technical process and too complicated for the majority of people.

As we had stated in a previous blog article, we cannot allow for Historia to become a tyranny of the few and we still believe that today. The Historia developers have gone to great lengths to simplify this process by using the Deterministic Masternode system.

The specifics of the Voting Node are as follows:

• 100 HTA.
• A wallet to store your Historia
• Run on any Windows, Linux, or OSX from your home network, no VPS required
• Setup from GUI wallet
• No need to run 24 hours a day
• Reward: The ability to vote on proposals and records that shape the Historia network.

Hashing Algorithm

Since our last release there was a new version of the x16r algorithm, x16rv2. As of the time of writing, the Historia Network has already been upgraded to the x16rv2 algorithm.

In Wallet Voting

To make things as simply as possible for all users we have included in wallet voting as standard for both Masternode owners, and Voting Nodes. Once proposals and records start being created, the user will be able to view and vote on the governance objects directly from the wallet.

DNS Records and Identity

For Masternode owners a DNS name is now required. This allows for SSL certificates to be enabled on the content distribution masternodes to prevent eves-dropping or altering of governance object data in transit. 

For Voting Node owners, an Identity is now required. The Identity field will tie a cryptographic key to the Voting Node identity allowing for future use cases such as verified Identities to be used throughout the blockchain and web application. Because these are unique and non-duplicate names, it is recommended to get your chosen identity registered as soon as possible. Note, no KYC is required and we don’t want to see your identification.  

Web application

The web application that allows for proposals and records to be submitted and voted on has reached a level that the Historia developers have labelled as BaseX. Is this a complete application? No. However it has reached a level with the required functionality to provide the Historia community a way to use this web application as project management solution to determine via consensus where this project should go from here. This will be released in the next few weeks.
